Tragedy struck at the Clinton River in Macomb County on Sunday afternoon.

It began when a 3-year-old boy fell into the river while trying to feed ducks.

A 24-year-old Clinton Township man jumped in to rescue his friend's son and ended up drowning, according to Mitch Hotts of The Macomb Daily. A fisherman saved the boy.

The drowning victim was walking with the boy and the boy’s mother along a boardwalk that runs along the river behind the Macomb Family YMCA in Mt. Clemens about 4:50 p.m. when the incident occurred, Sheriff’s Capt. John Roberts say.

“It’s very sad,” Roberts said. “The river’s current is pretty fast and if you’re not sure of what you’re doing, you can get caught up in it very quickly.”

The body was recovered from the river after about an hour. é
