The Detroit Riot in 1967 had a powerful and long-lasting impact on the city economically, politically and racially.

This years marks the 50th anniversary and a movie titled "Detroit," captures that chapter of the city's turbulent history. 

A description of the film, which is included with the release of the trailer, says:

From the Academy Award winning director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty (Kathryn Bigelow), "Detroit" tells the gripping story of one of the darkest moments during the civil unrest that rocked Detroit in the summer of ‘67.

Director Kathryn Bigelow's film is scheduled for release Aug. 4. The riots broke out on July 23, 1967 and lasted four days.
