Microdistillery Opens in Royal Oak

 

For a downtown section that still seems pretty vibrant, Royal Oak has seen a lot of turnover, with businesses coming and going.

The latest arrival is Motor City Gas, a microdistillery opening today at 325 E. Fourth St., Natalie Broda of Crain's Detroit Business reports. It's in a site formerly occupied by Vintner's Cellar.

The distillery's first barrel, Royal Oak Rye, is a blended rye whiskey aged six months in small barrels.

Rich Lockwood, owner and founder, worked in marketing for Compuware Corp. until he lost his job in 2013.
