1 1978 Topps Alan Trammell Burger King
Tram's 1978 Topps collector's card.
The answer comes Jan 9, when Baseball Writers Association of America announces the next Baseball Hall of Fame honorees.

The pros and cons for nearly two dozen names on this year's ballot are tossed around in USA Today. Steve Gardner looks at the case for and against Alan Trammel,  a 56-year-old former Tigers shortstop (1977-96) and manager (2002-05) who's nominated a 12th time.

Worthy: "He was one of the first power-hitting shortstops, . . . named World Series MVP in leading the Tigers to the 1984 title. And he combined with second baseman Lou Whitaker to play a record 1,918 games together as double-play partners. Offensively, Trammell compares favorably to the greatest in baseball history at his position."

Unworthy: "He falls into the 'very good, but not great' category. . . .He only hit 20 homers twice, only drove in more than 100 runs once and only scored over 100 runs three times."
