Matty Moroun
One thing you can say about Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun: The man does not give up easily.
The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday approved a permit for a second Detroit-Windsor bridge, Keith Matheny and John Gallagher of the Detroit Free Press report.
Moroun still faces hurdles, the paper notess:
The approval clears a major hurdle for Moroun and his family, who for years have pushed the Coast Guard to approve the permit. But potential roadblocks remain before a new span could be built alongside the Ambassador Bridge, also owned by the Morouns.
Under Canadian law, Moroun would still need to obtain a permit under Canada’s International Bridges & Tunnels Act, which has not taken place. Canadian authorities have raised a number of issues including environmental concerns that could hinder the granting of such a permit. In any event, it would likely take considerable time before such a permit process could be completed.
The U.S. and Canada already have plans for a second bridge.
