The circumstance aren't the same, but the beating of Nathanial Szczerbinski conjures up memories of the beating of motorist Steve Utash.
Hank Winchester of WDIV reports that Szczerbinski, 34, was in the hospital Sunday night, recovering from injuries. The Free Press reports Szczerbinski lives in Grosse Pointe Park.
Szczerbinski told WDIV that he got in a car crash Saturday and was the one who caused the wreck because he was driving the wrong way down an unfamiliar Detroit street -- Vernor Highway, near Chalmers, a few blocks from the Grosse Pointe Park border.
Winchester reports that he was trying to turn around on the street when he was struck by a Chevy van. When he got out, he was confronted by three men in the van.
The men then went on the attack and beat him, according to WDIV, which cited "police sources"
Winchester reports that one man is in custody and could face assault nd ethnic intimidation charges.
Utash was beaten by a mob when he struck a young boy while driving and got out of the car.
