A Dearborn woman has dropped her federal lawsuit against the city of Dearborn in a case that centered around her Islamic hijab, or scarf.

Maha Aldhalimi sued the city of Dearborn, alleging Dearborn Police forced her to remove her religious head covering in front of male officers after being arrested for an unpaid parking ticket, according to a report Erica McClain of the Dearborn Press & Guide.

The woman's attorney dropped the case March 10 when confronted with video evidence that revealed “no wrongdoing and countered the fabricated and damaging accusations that were recklessly made,” a city media release says

“Dearborn police remain committed to respecting the rights of all people within our custody and we follow a stringent policy regarding religious head coverings. We knew this lawsuit had no merit and are glad that the people we serve can have confidence that our officers acted properly,” Chief Ronald Haddad says in the statement.
