A fifth-grade teacher at Novi Meadows Elementary School faces one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly having inappropriate contact with students, the suburban publication Hometown Life reports.

Tom Peronis, 44, was arraigned Monday at 52-1 District Court. The Troy resident was expected to post bond and get released. He was caught stealing funds from the school five years ago, Lonnie Huhman and Cal Stone of Hometown Life report.

The charge is the result of a two-month police investigation. When the allegations surfaced in May, authorities said two girls, 10 and 11, were interviewed as part of the case, the publication reports.

His next court date is Aug. 5 in front of District Judge Robert Bondy.
