Police Officer Joseph Weekley, accused of fatally shooting 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones three years ago, testified on his behalf Thursday, and talked about the impact the shooting has personally had on his life.
"I just feel devastated and depressed," he said. "I'll never be the same."
"I replay this every day in my head," he said. "There's nothing else I could have done differently."
Weekley also said he wasn’t negligent in handling his weapon, according to a report in The Detroit News.
Weekley is charged with involuntary manslaughter and careless discharge of a firearm causing death. The prosecution alleges that Weekley was grossly negligent during the raid for a murder suspect.
Steve Fishman, his attorney, argues the shooting was accidental.
The defense rested after his testimony.
Both the prosecution and defense delivered closing arguments on Thursday.
