The latest Covid variant -- Omicron -- could soon be the new dominant strain in Michigan, overtaking Delta.

"My guess is that Omicron will become the dominant variant in early January 2022," said Dennis Cunningham, Henry Ford Health System's medical director of infection control and prevention, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The comment comes as the state reports two more confirmed cases of the variant, bringing the total to three.

Meanwhile, the state reports 11,722 new Covid cases for Tuesday and Wednesday, for a daily average of 5,861, and 330 deaths during the two-day stretch, of which 230 were found during vital records searches.
