Miguel Cabrera seems to be headed for a crowing achievement.

Tom Gage of the Detroit News wrote earlier today:

In only a matter of hours, Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera should be the proud new owner of baseball's first Triple Crown - awarded for leading the league in homers, RBIs and average - of the 21st century, and the first in 45 years.

With 44 home runs, Cabrera had a one-homer lead over Texas' Josh Hamilton and a two-homer lead of Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion. Hamilton went 1-for-5 with no homers in his regular-season finale Wednesday afternoon, and Encarnacion wasn't in his team's starting lineup.

Cabrera flew out in his first at bat in the first inning against the Kanas City Royals.
