4:15 p.m. Thursday: For a while it looked as if it was going to the same old same old: Another loss on Thanksgiving for the LIons. But suddenly, as if there was some divine intervention, they turned into a great team that couldn't be stopped.

In the end, the Lions beat the Packers 40-10, ending a losing streak that began in 2003.

Thursday morning article:

Detroiters love their Thanksgiving tradition: Turkey, family and attending the Lions annual home game, or at least watching it on TV.

Unfortunately, what tradition they've begrudgingly gotten used to is watching the Lions lose.

Steve Eder writes about the Thanksgiving tradition in the New York Times, and notes:

Football on Thanksgiving is as American as turkey and stuffing, but in Detroit the tradition is deeply personal. The Lions have hosted Thanksgiving games since 1934, almost as long as the Motor City has had a motor. The Lions have played through the rise of Motown Records, through the city’s awful riots and through its bankruptcy.

But for the past decade, a new tradition has taken root: losing. The team has lost every Thanksgiving game since 2003, some of them badly, and all of them in the national spotlight.

Today the Lions, who haven't looked so hot of late, take on the Green Bay Packers.

Lions fans are always hopeful, but realistic.

On Facebook, Detroit area native Bryan Gruley, who now lives in Chicago, writes:

Today's News: I hope all my pals from Michigan have a great Thanksgiving. Which is to say, resist the urge to turn on the Lions game.

Detroit area resident Kevin Sherman posted this on Facebook:

I have all the windows boarded up. I have all the glass items out of the room. I have Tami removed from the room. I have taken all sharp objects out of the room. I have everything in the room covered in plastic. I have my dictionary of curse and swearing words in English, Spanish, Yiddish & Ebonics. I have all my soft throwing toys and marshmallow shooter. I have my tranquilizers. I am now ready to watch the Detroit Lions play today.
