If the Democrats were looking for hope in Detroit in the presidential recount, they may not find it.

Here's the bad news, as Steve Neavling writes at Motor City Muckraker:

More than half of Detroit’s voting precincts may be ineligible for a statewide recount of presidential election results because of broken optical scanners and other problems with ballots. That could be bad news for Hillary Clinton, who received a whopping 95% of the vote in Detroit.

Broken voting machines were a big problem on Election Day, causing delays and long lines. Some people went home without voting.

He goes on to write that state law disqualifies the recounting of precincts where voting machine printouts don’t match with ballots. That happened at 59.2% of Detroit’s 662 precincts.

On other hand, all may not be lost. Daniel Baxter, elections director for Detroit, tells The Detroit News:

Even so, Baxter said it’s unlikely all 392 of the city’s precincts with mismatched numbers will be disqualified from a recount. The city is in contact with elections officials at the state of Michigan and Baxter predicted the numbers will match when the ballot boxes are re-opened for the recount, which starts Tuesday in Wayne County at Cobo Center.
