Dearborn parents Amber and James Johnson III were arraigned Friday on a host of charges, including second-degree murder, in connection with the drowning of their 2-year-old daughter.

“The alleged actions and inactions of the defendants in this case defy common sense," says Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy in a  statement. "Once again we are left with a child whose death was completely preventable.”

The couple also is charged with involuntary manslaughter, second-degree child abuse.

The girl died last Saturday after falling into a pool and being hospitalized for about 24 hours. Dearborn police say the girl died Saturday around 11:15 a.m..

Authorities say that the  girl and her 3-year-old brother went outside while their parents were sleeping, climbed a link fence and got into a neighbor’s yard. The little girl got into the pool, the station reports. The homeowner found the girl , who was taken to a hospital.

Her brother was not hurt.

Bond is set at $1 million. A probable cause hearing is set for Friday, June 24. A preliminary hearing is set for July 1 in 19th District Court.
