Former Detroit City Councilman David Eberhard, who served from 1969-93, died Tuesday at 82 at a Shelby Township nursing home following complications from lymphoma after a lengthy illness, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Rev. Eberhard also rose through a series of church jobs to become associate pastor of Detroit’s Historic Trinity Lutheran Church beginning in 1980, then head pastor in 1983, a position from which he retired in August after rebuilding its membership from several hundred to about 2,000, Bill Laitner of the Detroit Free Press writes.
Visitation is at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church, 1345 Gratiot, 2-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9:30 until the service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be at the church.
