A lot of hand-wringing took place before Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson finally decided to retire from the team earlier this year. He went on to compete on "Dancing with the Stars."
Some thought his departure would amount to a disaster for the Lions. So far, the team is doing pretty well without him.
Still, Don Drysdale, an editor for Detroit Sports Nation, writes an open letter to Johnson, asking him to return and help Detroit get to the Super Bowl. Excerpt:
Let’s cut to the chase. Calvin (We’ve known each other long enough to be on a first name basis, right?), we need you to come back to the Detroit Lions to make a Super Bowl run. The team has gotten better and better each week, but they still have a glaring weakness in the red zone, which showed again on Sunday against the Saints. Matthew Stafford needs a go-to weapon and there has never been anyone better than you.
The fact of the matter is that this Lions team has a chance to do something very special, especially in what is a weak NFC, but they cannot get to the promised land without you.
The bottom line is that you are one of the greatest receivers ever to play in the NFL and YOU deserve a Super Bowl. As fans of the Detroit Lions, WE deserve a Super Bowl.
So, what do you say?
