Michigan’s Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in northern Michigan is getting a nice nod from the White House.

President Obama signed legislation Thursday that will preserve the lakeshore, Marisa Schultz of The Detroit News reports.

“Today is a huge win for Sleeping Bear Dunes, our economy and for the citizens of Northern Michigan,” says U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek, R-Cyrstal Falls, who led the bill’s passage in the U.S. House this month.

The law means that 32,500 acres of land and inland water, about 46 percent of Sleeping Bear Dunes, will be treated as “wilderness.”
