The stalled Wayne County Jail where new soccer stadium might go.

If Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores land a Major League Soccer expansion team, games would temporarily be played at Ford Field, Bill Shea of Crain's Detroit Business reports.

MLS plans to announce the next two of four planned expansion cities in December.

Detroit expects to make its formal pitch this month to league officials.

Gilbert and Gores hope to get a team and build a stadium at the site of the unfinished Wayne County Jail on Gratiot at the edge of downtown. Negotiations for that site are ongoing.

Alternately, the soccer team could conceivably call Ford Field its permanent home.
