Prohibition-Theme Micro Distillery Headed for Eastern Market

A former slaughterhouse in Eastern Market is being converted into a a prohibition-themed micro distillery.

Crain's Detroit Business reports the business, The Detroit City Distillery at 2462 Riopelle St., will have a tasting room that serves gin, whiskey and vodka. It's set to open in 2014.

Seven young professionals, including a microbiologist, corporate attorneys, an accountant and the director of the Detroit Economic Growth Corp.'s REVOLVE program, decided to join Detroit's craft movement. At the center of the group are distiller J.P Jerome and the DEGC's Michael Forsyth.
