Spike TV's "Bar Rescue" show, which tries to turn around struggling bars, has been contacting a handful of Metro Detroit businesses and inviting them to apply to be on the entertaining reality show.

Melody Baetens of the Detroit News reports that the show, starring veteran food and beverage industry consultant Jon Taffer, has contacted bars in the area including the New Dodge Lounge in Hamtramck to gauge the owner's interest in being a part of the show.

The News reports:

New Dodge bartender Andrea Bonaventura confirmed that casting representatives called the bar and then spoke with the owner Cathie Gordon.

"She wants to do it," said Bonaventura, adding that she thinks Gordon's outspoken personality would be perfect for the high-drama show.

Yes,the show often includes a lot of drama.

The show's star, who has a strong personality, and who can be a bully,  strongly recommends changing business practices for the failing bars. The show also offers a physical makeup of a bar free of charge.

 It's all very similar to the Food Network's "Restaurant Impossible."
