Jimmy Howard

The Detroit Red Wings, who trail first-place Tampa Bay by five points, will apparently have to make do without All-Star goalie Jimmy Howard until the All-Star break, The Detroit News reports.

Tests will determine the extent of his groin injury, Gregg Krupa writes.

After an MRI, scheduled for noon Sunday, about 17 hours after Howard did an awkward, wide split while attempting to stop a power-play goal early in a 3-1 loss to the Capitals, the 30-year-old goaltender was due for an ultrasound test.

The All-Star game is Saturday, Jan. 24.
