Now for a new chapter in the scandal involving University of Michigan frat and sorority member who vandalized the Treetops Resort in northern Michigan.

Jim Kiertzner of WXYZ reports that the resort announced Tuesday that it is filing a lawsuit against the University of  a Michigan fraternity and sorority for significant damage caused during a stay at the Gaylord resort in January.

The press release said that more than 200 members of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity and Sigma Delta Tau sorority rented almost 50 rooms at Treetops, and that the damage was so bad inside rooms that Michigan State Police had to be called to help evict the group, WXYZ reports.

"According to various assessments, the damage caused on the second day was so extensive that it had to be the result of malicious and intentional conduct," the release said.

The resort pegged the damage at $430,000, WXYZ reports.

Three students have been criminally charged in the incident, and more could be charged, WXYZ reports.
