A two-bill package outlawing what's referred to as “revenge porn” passed the state House of Representatives on Wednesday, the Macomb Daily reports. The bills now awaits the signature of Gov. Rick Snyder.

The bills make it a misdemeanor to post a sexually explicit image of a person without their consent, writes Jameson Cook of The Macomb Daily.

“This takes care of the situation where somebody taps into the file of another person or where a person has shared images with someone but then the relationship goes sour,”  said state Sens. Steven Bieda, one of the sponsors of the bill.  “It also sends a message out there that this is against the law, we have a statute against it.”

The paper reports one provision allows offenders to avoid a criminal charge if they remove the image upon written request, or shows sincere intent to remove it.
