No, you weren't hallucinating if you thought you saw convicted, ex-Detroit City Council member Monica Conyers chatting on Tuesday with convicted killer Bob Bashara, who was in Wayne County Circuit Court to try and get a new trial.

Conyers told the media that she had just passed the bar exam and was assisting court-appointed attorney John J. Holler III, who is representing Bashara's handyman, Joe Gentz.  Gentz had told authorities that he killed Bashara's wife Jane, at the behest of Bashara. Now, Gentz, who appeared in court Tuesday,  is recanting his story, and says he carried out the murder on his own.

Bashara hopes that's enough to get a new trial. Another hearing comes April 21.

"It's time to let go and let me live my life," Conyers said, according to WDIV's Jason Colthorp.

"I recently passed the bar so I just want to learn as much as I can learn from him (Holler) and be able to do something different with my life and give back to my community."

She says that she passed the bar in another state, but declined to say where.

Conyers, the estranged wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, was sentenced in 2010 to 37 months  in prison for taking bribes. She was released in 2013. She has filed for divorce, but court records show that has not been finalized.
