Metro Detroit is seeing wind, rain, snow and sleet as the effects of Superstorm Sandy swirl across southeast Michigan, Tammy Stables Battaglia writes in the Free Press.

A wind advisory remains in effect through 1 p.m., when the storm-whipped weather is expected to settle a little, National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Considine told the paper.

The high winds left about 56,000 DTE Energy customers without power this morning and that number could creep up as strong winds continue until this afternoon, according to the power company.

Areas of northern Oakland County were reporting slushy sleet falling at 6:30 a.m., and snow fell for an hour at the agency's White Lake Township office at about 1 a.m., said Considine.

"We’ve had some reports of snow and sleet mixing in, especially in northern Oakland County where you get up in elevation," he said. "It will likely go on for this morning, but I think by this afternoon it should be primarily rain."
