The amount of cash people try to smuggle at border entries from Canada to  Michigan is on the upswing.

WWJ and the Associated Press report that the government has seized more than $5 million since October at Michigan crossings, up 24 percent compared to the same period from 2011-12.

The report comes after  a 51-year-old Canadian woman and her 16-year-old daughter were detained last week at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel where customs and border officers found $59,000 sewn into their bras.

People must say if they're carrying more than $10,000 in cash.
