Local property owner Dennis Kefallinos, who is known for collecting empty buildings, has purchased the Bagley Avenue building that was home to El Zocalo for 33 years for $1.2 milion, Louis Aguilar of The Detroit News reports.

The restaurant, which was closed in September 2016, was among one of the more notable Mexican restaurants in Southwest Detroit. 

Kefallinos tells the paper he wants to use the building for a new restaurant.

"I'm looking to keep it as a Mexican restaurant. My hope is by summertime it will be open," Kefallinos said.
