State Sen. Coleman A. Young II in campaign ad
State Sen. Coleman A. Young II, the most recognizable mayoral candidate besides incumbent Mayor Mike Duggan, has released his first campaign ad.
Fox 2 airs snippets of the ad. In an interview with M.L. Elrick , Young tells why he's running.
The ad says there's two Detroits. It then shows white people in downtown Detroit and then a shot of blight in the neighborhoods. It's a thinly veiled shot at racial inequality in Detroit.
Young is expected to raise race as an issue in the campaign. He has alleged that Duggan doesn't represent the best interests of the black community.
Elrick mentions that Duggan likely has far more to spend. "He may have all the money, but we have all the voices," Young responds.
Eight candidates are running in the August primary for mayor.
