A Michigan State Police trooper has been suspended in connection with the pursuit of a teenager in an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) at Rosini Drive and Gratiot Avenue on Detroit's east side on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. The 15-year-old boy crashed the vehicle and died.

The trooper used his Taser during the pursuit, striking the teen before the crash, Dave Bartkowiak Jr. of WDIV reports.

"The troopers activated their emergency lights and siren, but the ATV driver refused to stop. The troopers pursued the ATV east on Rossini, and as the ATV approached Gratiot Avenue, the driver attempted to drive off the roadway onto the sidewalk, but crashed into the rear of a pickup truck," a State Police statement says.

Detectives continue to investigate and the case will be turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, the station reports.
