The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on New Years Day authorized charges against a 20-year-old suspected carjacker who allegedly fired multiple times at two Detroit police officers last week.
The carjacking allegedly occurred sometime Wednesday, and Thursday early evening officers spotted the stolen vehicle in the area of Hampshire and Newport Streets on Detroit's east side, reports Fox 2.
The prosecutor's office said that police attempted to initiate a traffic stop of an SUV in the 14000 block of Hampshire around 6:20 p.m.
But the SUV, allegedly driven by Javontae Deangelo Walker, accelerated and gunshots were fired in the direction of the officers, who returned fire. The suspect was wounded, but the officers were not.
Walker the allegedly fled on foot to the 14000 block of Camden where he hid in a house and later surrendered, the prosecutor's office said. Walker was taken to the hospital for treatment for multiple gunshot wounds.
Walker has been charged with the following crimes: two counts of Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, one count of Home Invasion 1st Degree, one count of Fleeing and Eluding Police, one count of Unlawful Driving Away-Automobile, five counts of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, and ten counts of Felony Firearm.
Walker is set to be arraigned in the hospital early this week.
