Thief Takes Ashes Of Soldier Who Was Killed in Afghanistan

The urn containing the ashes of  a fallen soldier was stolen last month from a parked car in Livonia.

The teal and black urn containing the ashes of 22-year-old Brian Backus was stolen July 8 from a Ford Mustang sitting in a driveway on Howell Road, according to a release from Crime Stoppers of Michigan, WXYZ-TV reports.

Crime Stoppers reports the thief also took other items including a GPS and an army uniform.

Backus served as a private in the United States Army and was killed in Afghanistan last year. He was the father of a 3-year-old boy.
