Hi Chicago! It's Detroit. What's up?
We know how proud you all are of Wrigley Field. The history and tradition, the ivy-covered walls, Harey Caray, the bleacher crowd, there's nothing like it in baseball! Also that 1908 World Series 1915 Federal League regular season championshup sounds like it was a blast.
So, we decided to come check it out. In fact, we kind of rented the place out yesterday to watch the Tigers beat the Cubs like it was the 1945 World Series. Justin Verlander pitched a gem (2R, 5H, 0BB, 8 IP) and even Ryan Raburn managed to show some life.
Maybe you saw some of the action on WGN, Chicago, because you sure weren't at your ballpark yesterday.
Chicago Sun Times: ‘‘I was pretty shocked to see as many orange shirts as I saw out there,’’ first baseman Bryan LaHair said after Justin Verlander beat the Cubs 5-3 on Thursday to put them back on a 108-loss pace. ‘‘They were definitely loud, and they definitely came in bunches.’’
They were especially loud when Austin Jackson hit that ninth-inning home run. Listening on the radio, you'd hardly know the Tigers were in their road gray uniforms.
That Tiger fans invading Wrigley left actor Jeff Garlin feeling sad makes it that much sweeter. -- JTW
