There were a lot of Detroiters rooting for the Houston Astros to win the World Series, and for most, it came down to the fact the ex-Tigers' ace Justin Verlander is on the team.
The Tigers, which traded him late in the season, tweet a classy congrats:
For someone who has earned several honors over his career, we know this one is special. Congrats @JustinVerlander.

For his part, Verlander posts on Instagram: "Thank you to all of Detroit for all the love!"
By the way, the Houston Chronicle reports that the pitcher and Kate Upton will marry in Tuscany, Italy, in mid-November.
After the final victory Wednesday night in Los Angeles, Verlander recounted the last-minute decision to go to the Astros right before the trade deadline. His contract let him reject any trade deal.
"On that night I said yes, this is what I envisioned," Verlander told ESPN after the 5-1 victory.
