With the Tigers trailing 3-1 against Baltimore Sunday, and with two outs and two men on, Tigers Manager Brad Ausmus sent pinch hitter Casey McGehee to the plate. There was tepid applause at Comerica Park. You could feel the collective resignation of defeat in the crowd. After all the guy, has one RBI and no homers this season.
McGehee grounded out, and the Tigers slipped two games behind Baltimore in the bid for a wild card spot. The Tigers have lost four of the last six games.
Still, there's certainly games left in the season to gain that ground back, and Ausmus isn't giving up, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News.
During questioning by the media, he said:
“What are we, two games out? I mean, if you win two and someone loses two in the next two days, this isn’t even a question. To start worrying about whether we’re hamstrung two games out on Sept. 11, I think is — no offense — not even a good question.
“We’re going to come back and try to win. We’ve got a shot at making the playoffs.”
