For months now, many Tigers fans have been hoping the team resigns pitching ace Max Scherzer.

First it didn't look good. Then as few teams expressed interest in Scherzer, it started to look better.

Now, it's not looking so good.

A New York sportswriter asked Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski at Major Leage Baseball owner's meeting Thursday what he thought about the chances of keeping Scherzer:

“I would say no, probably not.”

“We’ve been in a situation where we’re pretty well set with our starting pitching,” Dombrowski tells Ken Davidoff of the New York Post.  “We’ve got five starters that we’re comfortable [with]. I guess you never tell what happens, but we’re not in any type of active pursuit of any other pitching right now.”

Dombrowski went on to say that he wasn't surprised that Scherzer's agent Scott Boras hadn't yet gotten someone to sign his client.

“I can’t say I’m surprised or not. He’s a good pitcher. Scott has signed a lot of guys late. That has happened. So I can’t say I’m completely shocked.”
