A Troy cop fatally shot a 23-year-old man Monday morning who was brandishing two knives and charging at officers, authorities said.

It began when police responded to a call at a home on Saddle Brook Court for a domestic disturbance shortly after 7 a.m., Jennifer Ann Wilson of WXYZ reports. The man’s family called 911 saying he was combative and armed with knives.

Two cruisers arrived, including an unmarked car with two officers. Police tell the station that the man attempted to get into that car before moving toward the marked Troy Police vehicle.

An officer fired a Taser, but it wasn't effective.

“The subject continued to come at the officer, who then fired several shots, striking the individual .And, unfortunately, despite medical efforts being done immediately, he has . . . he’s been killed,” Lt. Josh Jones says in the news conference below.

His name was not immediately released. The Oakland County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
