Detroit News: Upon entering the 10,000-square-foot prayer hall, worshippers are greeted by the seven white-marble temples that will house Hindu deities. The largest will contain the deity Lord Laxmi Narayana.
The temples were built in parts in Ahemadabad, India, and shipped to the United States. Once they arrived at a West Virginia port, they were shipped by train to Metro Detroit early last year. It took local masons more than a year to put them together at the temple.
Overall, the entire temple complex checks in at around 70,000 square feet and includes a large banquet space for special events and weddings.
The Detroit News estimates roughly 25,000 Hindus live in metro Detroit.
