Being an EMS worker in Detroit has its challenges.
WXYZ reports that two EMS workers, a man and a woman, were stabbed and slashed in the face and hands by an agitated man while trying to help someone early Tuesday morning.
WXYZ reports that the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. in front of a homeless shelter on 3rd St. near MLK and the Lodge.
Medic 6 was working on an injured woman with an ankle injury when a man she was with became agitated with the medical assessment and attacked the EMS workers with a knife, WXYZ reports. The man is not in custody.
The station reports that the workers drove themselves to Detroit Receiving Hospital in their ambulance, and they will require surgery, said interim Detroit Fire Commissioner Eric Jones says their injuries will require surgery.
"The scene inside the rig was horrific. Their injuries were horrific," said Jones, according to WXYZ.
