
GAR Building
Detroit can always use more restaurants.
Sylvia Rector, the Detroit Free Press restaurant critic,, reports that Chef Kate Williams, in partnership with the owners of the the historic GAR Building at Grand River and Cass in downtown Detroit, plan to open two restaurants on the ground floor of the impressive structure this fall.
Rector writes that the eateries will include the small Parks & Rec diner, open 24 hours on weekends, and the larger Republic tavern, with an Old World European feel and a serious local-foods menu.
Renovations have been going on since 2011 at the 1899 Grand Army of the Republic, or GAR, Building, the Freep reports.
On June 4, Dan Gilbert's Dan Bedrock Real Estate Services officially announced that four new eateries in its properties. Three are very casual ones and one is more up-scale.
