Two off-duty Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were arrested Thursday on St. Patrick's Day following an alcohol-related accident in Pontiac, WDIV reports.
The sheriff's department said one of the off-duty deputies rear-ended a 70-year-old woman's car on University Drive near Paddock Street around 11 a.m. There was another deputy in the car, Halston Herrera of WDIV reports.
WDIV reports that the sheriff's department said "it was apparent" that both off-duty deputies had been drinking and both had firearms.
The driver was arrested on charges of operating while impaired and possession of a firearm while intoxicated, WDIV reports. The passenger was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
"This is completely unacceptable on more levels than I can list," Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said, according to the WDIV report. "Law enforcement is held to a higher standard. They have violated the public’s trust and will be held accountable for their inexcusable actions."
