The UAW is expected to announce its support of Detroit mayoral candidate Benny Napoleon at an 11AM press conference Friday.

UAW President Bob King stated in a press release that "Benny Napoleon has stood with working people time after time. He has stood up for workers and fought for their right to collective bargaining. We need a mayor in Detroit who cares about the working and retired people in this city, especially as Detroit goes through restructuring. Benny has longstanding relationships with all sectors of the Detroit community, including elected, community, business, religious and labor leaders, and he will use those relationships to bring constituents together to find fair solutions to Detroit problems."

King also points to Napoleon's experience with the Detroit Police Department as a key factor in the UAW's choice.

Napoleon is expected to appear with King to announce the endorsement just four days before the primary election.

Other notable endorsements for Napoleon include The Michigan Chronicle. The Detroit Free Press, the EMS Union and the Detroit Chamber are backing write-in candidate Mike Duggan.
