Brady Hoke still needs a new job, but he says discussions at Notre Dame didn't produce one.
He and head coach Brian Kelly "have been friends for many, many years, coaching against each other," Hoke said on the CBS Sports Network, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"(He) and I had a discussion . . . but I'm not going (to be) coaching defensive line at Notre Dame. .. . .
"I'm not going to South Bend. It's time to go south for a little bit, but not South Bend."

This just in -- a possible sequel to a sorry saga in Ann Arbor that ended Dec. 2:

Brady Hoke
"Former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke will join the Notre Dame staff after Signing Day," Chris Vannini writes at the Coaching Search sports news site.
Multiple reports earlier in the week indicated Notre Dame defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks will join the Oklahoma staff, opening a spot on the defensive side of the ball at Notre Dame.
Hoke’s background comes on the defensive line. Before becoming a head coach, he coached the defensive lines at Michigan, Oregon State, Western Michigan and Grand Valley State. . . .
Hoke has a career record of 78-70 as a head coach, including 31-20 at Michigan, but his record decreased each year, going from 11-2 in 2011 to 5-7 in 2014.
Hoke’s dismissal came just over a month after the resignation of athletic director David Brandon, who hired the coach in 2011. Jim Harbaugh was introduced Dec. 30 as the new football head coach.
