Mandi Utash-Emerick

Steve Utash, the motorist who was beaten by a mob, is expected to soon enter a rehab program. He has been at St. John Hospital and Medical Center.

His older daughter, 26-year-old Mandi Utash-Emerick of Warren, sent an update late this afternoon stating:

Update on my dad's condition. On Friday April 25 a doctor from RIM rehab center in Detroit came to evaluate my dad to see if he was able to go to their institute. He was approved and accepted :) He will be transferred there sometime this week we were told hopefully tomorrow, April 29th. RIM is one of the top rehab centers at DMC hospital that specializes in neurological damage and memory injuries.

I am beyond excited to have him out of the ICU and into a setting where everyone is dedicated to his success. I hope with time there he will regain his personality and memories as well as motor skills. The recovery journey has begun and we are all hoping for the best. Please continue to send good vibes to our family, your support has been overwhelming and appreciated. Thank you all so very much.

The news comes on the same day four suspects in the case were arraigned on charges of assault with intent to commit murder. August trial dates were set.
