On Sunday night, the school district posted this:
Good Afternoon DPS Parents and Guardians:
This is a Special Message from Detroit Public Schools. Please listen to the entire message to hear important information about potential school closures on Monday, January 11, 2015.
We are making this call today to alert you to the fact that the District may need to close a high number of its school buildings on Monday due to the ongoing teacher sick-outs being organized by a minority of DPS' teachers.
Although we do not yet know the exact schools being targeted for closure, we wanted to alert you to this possibility so that you can plan appropriately.
We will begin issuing alerts on school closures no later than 6 a.m. on Monday morning. Please watch for news of individual school closures in local the news media, and on the DPS Website and DPS Facebook page. You will also receive a call from your school if it is, in fact, closed.
We apologize in advance for this inconvenience, and are doing everything we can to ensure that you are kept up-to-date on the latest news regarding this matter.
It is also important to note that EM Earley has been meeting with the Governor’s administration and legislators to share with them districtwide concerns critical to a long-term successful outcome for the District, its students and families.
