William Elling of Macomb County, who owns a photography business and tree trimming service, has put together a slick drone video of downtown Detroit at night. Its soundtrack is "Mr. Sandman," a 1954 pop hit by the Chordettes.
Elling tells Deadline Detroit that he taped scenes over several months this year.
While filming downtown with his DJI quadcopter Sept. 25, he says, he had to guide it to an emergency landing on Clifford Street. By the time he sprinted a few blocks to the location, someone had taken the drone, which cost him about $1,600, and its GoPro camera.
He has started a GoFundMe page for a replacement and has gathered $1,200 from 28 donors so far.
