Original article, Thursday morning:

Fire appears to have destroyed much of the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, a more than century-old club that's hosted a number of national golf tournaments.

TV news footage showed flames and smoke shooting through the roof of the clubhouse for more than an hour late Thursday morning as firefighters from multiple jurisdictions sought to gain a handle on the blaze. At least one media outlet reports the central part of the building is likely destroyed

The building was designed by noted architect C. Howard Crane, a club member who also designed Orchestra Hall and the Fox Theatre in Detroit. A special section of the Free Press that marked the 1922 opening said it was "a replica of the George Washington homestead at Mount Vernon," the paper posts Thursday.
