Jurors in the Aiyana Stanley-Jones rial were taken out of the courtroom Wednesday to witness a demonstration of a stun grenade, shown in the brief clip at the Detroit News link below.
George Hunter reports there that jurors, prosecutors, police offers and members of the media huddled inside a cramped bungalow during the demonstration of a flash-bang grenade similar to the one used in a police raid that ended with the shooting death of 7-year-old Aiyana.
The living room where the Def Tech No. 25 distraction device was deployed Wednesday is close in size to the 14-by-13-foot room where Aiyana and her grandmother were sleeping on a couch on May 16, 2010, in an east-side duplex on Lillibridge Street.
A grenade was used then raid at Aiyana‘s Detroit home, seconds before the 7-year-old girl was fatally shot by Officer Joseph Weekley, who is on trial for involuntary manslaughter. The grenade was intended to cause confusion inside the house as police searched for a murder suspect.
