Charles Pugh, who played many roles in Detroit over the years, from Fox 2 anchor and reporter to respected president of the Detroit City Council, returned to Detroit from New York in his latest role as criminal defendant.

A thinner and grim-faced Pugh was arraigned via video Tuesday in Detroit 36th District Court on criminal charges in connection with a criminal sexual conduct case involving a then-14-year-old boy, Oralandar Brand-Williams writes at The Detroit News. He entered a not guilty plea and a $500,000 cash bond was set.

Pugh, 44, was extradited from New York where he lived after sexual harassment allegations first surfaced in Detroit involving a high school student he was mentoring. Pugh was ordered to pay the ex-student $250,000 following a civil jury trial in federal court in Detroit.
