It's something folks in Los Angeles have been accustomed to seeing: A police chase that's captured on film and played on the nightly news.
On Wednesday afternoon, a similar scenario unraveled in Metro Detroit.
Video aired on Fox 2 shows police chasing a car that's weaving in and out of traffic. The car eventually crashes into another car on Woodward and the Davison Freeway in Highland Park. A father, mother and son were inside the fleeing car.
After the crash, you can see a man running from the car. Police confront him with a taser and make the arrest. Another man in the car surrendered. The mother was put in an ambulance, Fox 2's Andrea Isom reported. The man in the car that was hit was treated at the hospital for a leg injury, Fox 2 reported.
Isom reports, citing a "police source," that the family in the fleeing car was under the influence of heroin.
Isom reports:
The chase began Wednesday afternoon when Southfield police spotted a vehicle driving the wrong way on the Lodge Freeway. Officers attempted to pull the car over but the driver sped off.
The car lead police on a chase through Southfield, Detroit and Highland Park. The car can be seen on SkyFOX video weaving dangerously in and out of traffic and fishtailing on the slippery roads.
The chase finally ended when the car crashed into another vehicle at Woodward Avenue and The Davison Freeway. The vehicle hit belonged to Patrick Caldwell. -- A.L.
