A Warren man with a lengthy record of break-ins was arraigned Thursday in Ferndale district court on charges he twice burglarized the Detroit Fleat food truck restaurant in two days while the restaurant was closed and stole liquor and cash, The Daily Tribune reports.
Scott Winward, 48, is charged with two counts of breaking and entering with intent, each a 10-year felony. He has at least seven convictions for breaking and entering in Oakland and Macomb counties, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records. Bond was set at $25,000.
Ferndale police allege that Winward, described as a transient, broke into the Detroit Fleat building at 1820 E. Nine Mile Rd. early Nov. 1 and again the next morning before the restaurant opened, reports Mike McConnell of the Daily Tribune. Police reviewed surveillance video.
“Both times he broke in through a locked door,” Sgt. Baron Brown tells the Tribune. "The first night he grabbed a couple hundred bucks from a cash register drawer and a bottle of liquor. The next morning at 7:30 a.m. he stole another bottle of liquor and grabbed the cash drawer again, but it was empty."
Ferndale police found him at the Macomb County Jail, being held for another crime.
